I recently purchased the black case for my 15.4" unibody macbook pro. When I was fitting it on, it fit so snugly that at times I was worried about applying too much pressure just to get it to snap into place. I had a particular amount of trouble with the holds around the screen, because I don't like pressing the screen too hard. Especially when it is to install something that is supposed to protect my computer, not break it. But after I snapped it into place, it seemed fine. The only problems are that now my computer is heavier, it's hard to fit into the case, and there are parts on the bottom that are not completely clasped on because there are no holds on the back corners. But, if you would like to protect your computer from scratches, I would recommend this product. Personally, living in the dorms, I just wanted to disguise the fact that my computer is a mac and this seems to work pretty well.

I've owned SPECK products before so I wasn't too worried when I purchased this item. I decided to go with the satin finish over the clear plastic for the gripability feature. The case itself has a very tight fit to my Apple MacBook Pro MC226LL/A 17-Inch Laptop insuring that it stays on. I like the dark color in contrast to the aluminum finish of my laptop. They compliment each other. The satin finish provides a tactile grip making it easier to hang on to while out and about. If you own a Apple MacBook Pro MC226LL/A 17-Inch Laptop or anyone of the other multitude of Apple laptops I would highly recommend purchasing a SPECK product to protect the finish of your laptop.

Alvin Uy ( Los Angeles ) LOOKS GREAT... BUT NOT A SNUG FIT.
Just arrived today and could not wait to install it. At first it seemed to fit nicely. Of course that's when its just sitting on the table. To my disappointment, every time I closed it up and picked up the whole laptop.... the bottom piece keeps popping out of place (towards the top left area). I realize that this is because the bottom piece bends whenever I hold the laptop on the hinge side...which in turn unlatches this corner. This corners small bracket don't quite latch on securely because the plastic is not stiff enough. Perhaps a got a lemon...or perhaps they should have made this with a stiffer plastic.
So overall, for such an expensive piece of plastic... they shouldn't have cut corners with the grade of material. Would I recommend? Perhaps only if you want to superglue it on to keep it in place.

Fits super tight on my 17" MBP Unibody. I had to remove it once to upgrade my HD to 500GB/7200RPM. It went back on easily. I recently bought a Kensington lock too. The fit for that seems a bit too tight now, since approximately 1.5mm depth is added between the lock mechanism and the mac. The black, rubbery part of the lock is already getting tore up...Just something to think about if you're on-the-go, using a lock.

The translucent black smoke shell snaps on beautifully and offers perfect protection. The Apple logo has a subtle soft glow, but still very Mac. Access to all ports is not hampered in the slightest, and it adds virtually no weight. The finish is slightly "rubberized", but it does not catch on my laptop bag, or collect "dust or dirt". Great product to protect my MacBook Pro purchase.
